Income Tax Return | How to Verify Your Income Tax Return Online | YES BANK

To complete your income tax filing, you need to verify your income tax return (ITR). The Income Tax Department gives taxpayers 120 days to complete ITR verification. In case you fail to do so, the department will not process your ITR.

There are five online modes and one offline mode to verify the income tax return.

  1. By Aadhar Card-based OTP verification
  • Link your mobile number and PAN to your Aadhar card.

  • Visit the Income Tax website. Click on the ‘My Account’ option or visit the ‘Quick Links’ section. Select the ‘e-Verify Return’ sub-option.

  • Enter your PAN details, assessment year and acknowledgement number and click on submit.

  • Upon submission, you will get an option to generate a one-time password (OTP) to verify income tax return. Select the option to receive a 6-digit OTP (valid for 30 minutes) on your mobile number.

  • Enter the OTP in the required box on the website and submit to complete your income tax verification.

  1. By generating EVC through the net banking facility (available for select banks only)

  • Register your PAN number with your bank.

  • Ensure that you log out of your account on the income tax website.

  • Visit your bank’s website and log in to your bank account. Go on the ‘tax’ tab on your bank’s portal and click on ‘e-verify’. Thereafter, you will be directed to the income tax website.

  • Proceed to click on the ‘My Account’ option and select ‘Generate EVC’ (electronic verification code). Thereafter, you will receive a 10-digit code on your email and mobile number, which will be valid for 72 hours.

  • Click on the ‘e-Verify’ option under your account and enter the EVC code to verify your income tax return.

  1. By EVC generated via bank account (available for select banks only)

  • Ensure that your name and PAN on the income tax portal matches with your bank account details.

  • Visit the profile settings in your account on the income tax website to pre-validate your bank account.

  • To pre-validate, you must enter the required details, such as your bank's name, account number, IFSC code, and mobile number.

  • Upon pre-validation, click on ‘My Account’ and select the 'Generate EVC' option. You will receive a code on your mobile number. Enter this code in the 'e-Verify' tab.

  1. By EVC generated via Demat account (applicable for Demat account holders only)  

  • Visit the ‘Profile settings’ in your account on the income tax website. Input details such as mobile number, email ID, etc. to pre-validate your Demat account.

  • Within 1-2 hours, your account will be pre-validated, and you will receive a confirmation mail/SMS.

  • Upon validation, click on ‘Generate EVC’ option and enter the EVC you receive on your mail or mobile number.

  1. By EVC generated via bank ATM (for selected banks only)

  • Visit your bank’s ATM, swipe your card, and click on the ‘pin for Income tax filing’ option to generate an EVC. You will receive an EVC on your number which will be valid for 72 hours.

  • Log-in to your e-filing account on the income tax portal and click on the ‘e-verify returns’ option. Enter the EVC to verify your income tax return.

  1. By sending a signed, hard copy of the ITR-V to the Income Tax Department via post

If you cannot or are unable to verify your income tax return via any of the online modes you can post (via ordinary/speed post) a signed copy of your ITR acknowledgement receipt to the department:
