Mumbai, April 24, 2017: On the occasion of World Earth Day, YES BANK, India’s fifth largest private sector bank, announced the launch of the third edition of its highly successful YES BANK Natural Capital Awards. The Awards recognize India’s leading natural capitalists (including organizations, individuals and corporations) dedicated to spearheading ecological conservation and environmental stewardship.
TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) is the knowledge & evaluation partner. An eminent jury panel of legendary Indian naturalists, industry stalwarts, photographers and environmentalists will select winners, who will then be awarded at a ceremony in New Delhi in September 2017. The YES BANK Natural Capital Awards 2017 consists of five categories:
- Eco-Corporate (Manufacturing/ Services)
- Pixel Perfect (Photography)
- Trailblazer (Photo-essay)
- Eco-Tourism (New category)
- Nature Leader (New category)
Speaking on the launch of the YES BANK Natural Capital Awards 2017, Mr. Rana Kapoor, MD & CEO, YES BANK, said “Natural Capital, simply defined, is the economic value of the country’s ecosystems, and flora & fauna. The YES BANK Natural Capital Awards is a first-of-its-kind programme aimed at providing an annual platform to encourage individuals, organizations and companies to showcase their efforts in natural capital conservation. The Awards serve as an opportunity to map existing natural capital initiatives in India and showcase best practices that are replicable and would enable a Green India.”
YES BANK, the first Indian signatory to Natural Capital Declaration and now the chair of the Natural Capital Finance Alliance (NCFA), (a joint initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI) and Global Canopy Programme (GCP)), is committed to responsible natural capital consumption, accounting mechanisms and conservation within industry and civil society.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Namita Vikas, Group President & Global Head, Climate Strategy & Responsible Banking, YES BANK LTD, and Distinguished Fellow, YES Global Institute, said, “Natural capital is one of the key focus areas at YES BANK & through platforms such as the YES BANK Natural Capital Awards, the Bank aims to mainstream the adoption of natural capital imperatives in financial decision making and advocate the importance of developing regulatory frameworks, disclosure mechanisms and reporting measures for natural capital accounting.”
Senior ministers including Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon. Minister for Railways; Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon. Minister for Human Resource Development and Shri Jitendra Singh, Hon. Minister of State (I/C) for Development of North Eastern Region & MoS, PMO; have participated in previous editions of the YES BANK Natural Capital Awards, and shared their valuable insights at the platform as Chief Guests/ Guests of Honor. The competition has seen wide participation from Government, industry, international diaspora, wildlife & natural history specialists, sustainability professionals, and multilateral agencies.
