Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu inaugurates YES BANK’s water purification system at Kankavli Station in Konkan

Mumbai, March 25, 2016: Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Government of India today inaugurated the water purification system installed by YES BANK at Kankavli Station in Konkan. YES BANK, India’s fifth largest private sector bank, as a part of its flagship CSR intervention ‘Livelihood and Water Security’ has installed a 300 lph capacity community water purification system at the Kankavli Station where close to 1,858 passengers originate every day. This launch closely follows the World Water Day which was observed on March 22, 2016. Last month YES BANK inaugurated water purification systems at Madgaon and Majorda stations.

YES BANK has committed to install 1000 water purification systems at railway stations across India in partnership with Indian Railways by 2018. Under the ‘Livelihood and Water Security’ initiative, the Bank aims to provide safe and clean drinking water across ‘D’ and ‘E’ category railway stations in the country starting with 100 stations across the Konkan belt and other locations in Maharashtra this year.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shri Suresh Prabhu said, “I congratulate YES BANK for commencing this unique initiative in partnership with the Indian Railways. Providing access to clean drinking water, especially in railway stations - the lifeline of India, is a very constructive approach by YES BANK in conjunction with the Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance water security in the country. I believe this intervention is a strong start to developing better avenues for clean drinking water at public locations in order to improve public health at large.

Going forward, YES BANK has committed to touch 100 million lives through its safe and clean drinking water program by 2020 at the COP21 international climate conference at Paris last year to achieve a holistic impact.
