Mumbai, March 8, 2018: YES BANK, India’s fourth largest private sector bank in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra’s Rural Development Department has launched the ASMITA App to entirely digitize the sanitary napkin subsidy distribution and buying process.
Under the scheme, the ASMITA App will be available to Self-help Groups to distribute sanitary napkins to over 7 lakh school girls aged between 11 and 19 studying in state government schools and to over 1. 75 crore women hailing from rural pockets of the state.
Under the ASMITA Scheme, the Government of Maharashtra is driving better health facilities for women by increasing availability of subsidized sanitary napkins to school girls at Rs. 5 and increased availability to rural women at Rs. 24.20 (240mm) and Rs. 29.20 (280mm) per packet containing 8 napkins each. All school girls will be provided with ‘ASMITA Card’ for instant purchase of the napkins.
YES BANK is empowering an entire community of women and girls in the state of Maharashtra by digitizing the complete subsidy process, by not just helping eliminate plausible misuse of the subsidy but also alleviating taboos associated with buying sanitary napkins, helping women maintain better menstrual hygiene and improve school attendance.
Commenting on the development, Rana Kapoor, MD & CEO, YES BANK said, “YES BANK is privileged to be associated with the Government of Maharashtra and the ASMITA Scheme, given the phenomenal work done by them for welfare of school-going girls and women by subsidizing their basic health needs. As a leader in digital payments, YES BANK’s partnership with ASMITA Scheme will help revolutionize payments for health segment in India, also enabling end-to-end automation of subsidy payments in Maharashtra, making the state a leader in E-Governance, at par with global counterparts.”
Under the scheme, Self Help Groups (SHGs) will be able to buy sanitary napkins directly from Government appointed manufacturers at subsidized rates through the ASMITA App and make direct payments through a wallet integrated with the app. SHGs can load money in the wallet by visiting the nearest Aple Sarkar center and then sell the napkins at subsidized rates to school going girls who have been issued the ASMITA Card by the Government of Maharashtra. The process will also ensure wider distribution of sanitary napkins in rural pockets of the state. The entire subsidy management between government, SHGs and manufacturer will be seamlessly done by YES BANK’s digital cash management solution.
