Reasons why Sunrisers Hyderabad would win IPL 2017

Wednesday, 05 April 2017 | 2:07 PM

Description

After winning the maiden title in IPL 2016, the Sunrisers Hyderabad will be looking to continue their supreme form of last season, to clinch their second IPL title. Here are the reasons why Sunrisers Hyderabad will be favourites this season.

Bowling department:

The Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling unit is one of the best in IPL. Both Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mustafizur Rahman (subject to his availability) were in the top 5 wicket takers last season. The duo picked up a total of 40 wickets between them.

Away performance:

With most teams banking on their home advantage, SRH on the other hand has won 67% of their away matches last season. The consistency in performance, especially in away is crucial for every team to succeed.

Auction buys of Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan:

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Mohammad Nabi for 30 lakhs and Rashid Khan for 4 crores. Rashid Khan since last April has topped the wicket charts in T20I with 21 wickets at an average of 8.42 and economy rate of 4.91. While Mohammad Nabi in the same period has scored 207 runs at an average of 41.4 and at a strike rate of 181.6. In bowing he has picked up 10 wickets.

Openers form:

Openers’ contribution has been vital for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past. In IPL 2016, SRH openers have contributed 53% of the total runs scored by the SRH batsmen. Interestingly, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan has scored 13 fifties for Sunrisers Hyderabad of the total 15 half centuries scored last season.

The X Factor:

The Indian limited overs stalwart, Yuvraj Singh has been in supreme form after his comeback into the national squad. Yuvraj scored 270 runs at an average of 70 in the recently concluded ODI series against England, and he will be looking forward to carry on his great nick for SRH.

SRH under David Warner would want to continue their successful stint and defend their title to become the second team to do so after Chennai Super Kings.
